Working PCMCIA Net Card Not Found On Reboot

Hi there,

I'm running Mandrake 10.0CE on a Dell Inspiron 8000 notebook. I've got a Wises iPort PCMCIA 10/100 Card that I use to connect to the LAN. I only plug the card in when I'm at the office. Usually I use my notebook at home, and when I get home in the evening Harddrake tells me that the ethernet card has been removed - which is correct.

The annoyance is this - the first time I plug the card in and start my machine up fo rthe day harddrake finds the card just fine and I can connect to the LAN. However, if I need to reboot at any time during the day with my network card still in there suddenly, harddrake tells me that the card is not found - when nothing has changed from a hardware point of view.

The workaround I've found is to start the notebook, get as far as the pcmcia services loading, and then hit ctrl-alt-del to shut the notebook down and start it again. The second time it finds the card OK - but this process is a complete annoyance!

I've tried looking on linuxquestions and googling to find some answers but haven't been sucessful thus far.

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks,
Pete

Must be something in one of the init scripts or init config files.

Was just wondering, have you done any updates to your system lately or added new apps? They can sometimes trash your config files in "auto" systems like mandrake.

Perhaps you should remove and reinstall pcmcia-cs and see if that doesn't cure the bug.

Thanks so much for your reply.

The problem is consistent even when I just reinstalled Mandrake from scratch on my notebook.

I'll try what you've recommended and let you know how I go.

Cheers,
Pete
