Won't boot after compiling 2.4.26 kernel with Slackware 10

I've been able to install Slackware 10 on my HP Pavilion N3350 without many problems but I just can't figure out why I'm having problems compiling the kernel and then booting it. I've followed the steps line by line in this sites wiki (except the one involving initrd, that file didn't exist) and on a few other sites and they all end in the same thing.

Lilo loads up and lets me choose which kernel to boot (and it lists my new one) and when I hit enter it gets to "Bios data check successful" and then just reboots. I am still using a 2.4.* kernel because it doesn't seem to have problems with the atmelwlan driver (it won't even compile under 2.6).

I'm really at a loss here, any pointers or clues as to what to try next will be greatly appreciated.

can you post links to the tutorials you used to help you compile?

i've used http://www.freeos.com/articles/2589/2/1-3/ to help me with the 2.4.26 kernel on slackware 10 without problems.

I've tried this sites wiki:
http://wiki.linuxquestions.org/wiki/...mpile_a_Kernel

slackware.org's instructions:
http://www.slackware.org/book/index....urce=x948.html

there was one more random one I found on google but I can't seem to find it again. I've also looked through a few others and didn't notice any big differences but I don't know enough about the process to judge what's a major difference and what isn't.

i don't have the time to look through and find all the differences between tutorials right now, but i know for sure i did the exact same thing you're trying on the same distro with the same kernel version successfully using the tutorial i linked above.
