I am installing the openSuSE 10.0 on my Acer Aspire 5024 notebook, and I'm having trouble getting the Wireless connection to work. I downloaded the win64 driver from Acer, and installed it using ndiswrapper. (I had to compile and install version 1.5 since SuSE's ndiswrapper 1.4 installation was not found by modprobe). I could modprobe ndiswrapper, and /var/log/messages showed that everyting was loaded nicely.

Next I compiled and installed the acer_acpi module by Mark Smith (see archernar.co.uk/acer_acpi/acer_acpi_main.html). Again it installed allright, and
"modprobe acer_acpi" generated files under /proc/acpi/acer.
According to the sites I mentioned, the command
echo "enabled : 1" > /proc/acpi/acer/wireless
should activate the wireless connection, and /var/log/messages indicates that Wireless is
set to 1. However, using "iwlist wlan0 scan" gives me "no scan results" while I know there are some networks around. I am btw running kernel version 2.6.13-15
hello i have acer 5024 too
and i install suse 10 eval
Suse identify a lot of device (acpi function, ati x700 graphics card vs.)
but i didnt find bluetooth, card reader vs.
So what diferent linux install your acer and which one is the best for you
Mobility X700 - You really need the proprietary 'fglrx' drivers from ATi for 3D (also, you will need the latest drivers if you want to access the power saving features of this graphics chip). I don't know if SuSE provide an RPM of this for you to download yourself, otherwise get it directly from ATi's website.
Bluetooth - Doesn't have it (ignore the button on the front, it doesn't do anything).
Ok I -sortoff- solved it... after I did a Yast system update with the packman server as installation source it worked fine. I think because it also gave me a kernell update..
