wlan not working on acer TM290LMi with centrino 2100 3B
hi.. i am a newbie trying to get wireless lan setup on my laptop.
machine: acer travelmate 290LMi, 1.3gig, 512mb, intel pro/wireless 2100 3B os: dual boot with sp2 and suse linux pro 9.1 linux has detected the intel wireless chipset but i am unable to get it to connect to my network. the network is open and unencrypted. i installed the 'wireless tools' package from ipw2100.sourceforge.net but when i type the command 'iwconfig', it says command not found. i have also tried following the instructions given in 'Frealek's dotPage', but i found that i do not have a kernel locally to compile!? i realize that probably installations from a cd (like in my case), do not give the user the source kernel. i am now quite confused. should i try to download *any* kernel package from kernel.org and try and work something out.. or is there any in-depth newbie-level howto's that i can refer to? let me know if i havent specified something. thanx! |
