I am using Slackware 10.0 on a Gateway 400vtx laptop. I installed using the bare.i kernel from CD1 (uses APM) and am pleased with everything except it will not give me the percentage of battery charged.

When typing "apm" in a terminal it replies: "AC on-line, no system battery" even though it is not plugged in and is only running on batteries.

Klaptop allows me to set suspend, standby, and low battery warnings (though I have not run the battery down yet to test whether they work)

I followed advice from another forum and installed the bareacpi.i kernel as well to try that. When it boots up, my battery monitor works great, but suddenly I lose my wireless Internet. (It works fine with the bare.i kernel) When typing "iwconfig" I am told "no wireless interfaces".

Any ideas? I do not see, when I boot the acpi kernel, the rc.M file called like I do with just the bare.i kernel. That is the file that sets my MAC address and IP.

Sounds like the device was put to sleep as in suspend.

Find out what module your wireless card uses with 'lsmod' in your kernel that works with it, and then see if its loaded in your acpi kernel. If its not there, try and load it, otherwise you might need to build the module for it.
