Wireless turned off in Windows

Hi all,
I think I have my wireless card turned off in Windows so that it will not function in Ubuntu 10.04. The trouble is, I no longer have windows (it was a dodgy Chinese version anyway) as I only used it once - to download Ubuntu.

The Ubuntu help says the only way to turn it on again is with Windows - which I no longer have. Surely there must be another way?

thanks in anticipation!

It will help someone help you, if you can tell us what exactly this wireless card is. Make & model will be great. Please post the wireless NIC info from the output of:
lspci -vnn
The info will look something like below, except for your wireless card rather than this ethernet card I show here:
05:06.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: ADMtek NC100 Network Everywhere Fast Ethernet 10/100 [1317:0985] (rev 11)
        Subsystem: Motorola Device [1057:7310]
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 19
        I/O ports at e800 [size=256]
        Memory at febffc00 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=1K]
Expansion ROM at febc0000 [disabled] [size=128K]
        Capabilities: <access denied>
        Kernel driver in use: tulip
        Kernel modules: tulip
P.S. - Have you happened to check in your computer's BIOS to see if the thing can be re-enabled from there?

Thanks for your reply.
Here's the info you require:

09:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g [14e4:4315] (rev 01)
Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device [103c:137d]
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 18
Memory at 51100000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K]
Capabilities: <access denied>
Kernel driver in use: b43-pci-bridge
Kernel modules: ssb

Also here's the relevant output for sudo lshw -C network

*-network DISABLED
description: Wireless interface
physical id: 1
logical name: wlan0
serial: 00:26:82:5a:fb:59
capabilities: ethernet physical wireless
configuration: broadcast=yes multicast=yes wireless=IEEE 802.11bg

Hence why I think it's turned off.
Also, the button to turn the wireless on/off is illuminated red and does not function, when I had Windows it was illuminated in blue. The change in colour might indicate that it's off and can't be turned on.

I have also checked the BIOS. Can't see anything relevant there.

If there's any more info I can give, please indicate. I'd be very grateful for any help you could provide.
