Wireless Problem

I am currently using a Compaq Presario CQ60 with Slackware 13.1.
When the laptop comes on the wireless light is on orange and the wireless off, and no matter how many times I press it, it does not come on.
I have used compat-wireless to update the driver, this has done nothing.
I originally had fedora on it and this worked fine(13 I think, could have been 12)
I have tried the Backtrack4 R2 Live CD and the same problem occurs, I can now only get wireless on my Windows Partition, and the Fedora 12 Live CD.

While I was able to get wireless I did a iwconfig to see that difference between the wireless being On and Off.
Here's What I got:
On:
Code:
wlan0 IEEE 802.11abgn ESSID:"dlink"
Mode:Managed Frequency:2.437 GHz Access Point: (erased)
          Bit Rate=0 kb/s Tx-Power=20 dBm
          Retry long limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
          Power Management:on
          Link Quality=52/70 Signal level=-58 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
          Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0
Off:
Code:
wlan0 IEEE 802.11abgn Mode:Managed Frequency:2.437 GHz
          Access Point: Not-Associated Tx-Power=off
          Retry long limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
          Power Management:on
          Link Quality:0 Signal level:0 Noise level:0
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
          Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0
My card is Atheros AR928X (PCI-Express)(rev 01)

Let me know if any other information is needed.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thank You.

Go here -->http://alien.slackbook.org/dokuwiki/...ckware:network

and follow the instructions. Slackware is configured by editing specific files.

Your card is supported by the ath9k driver. If you want to know if it is loaded, open a console and run the command 'lsmod | grep ath9k' ( without the quotes ). If the module is loaded, proceed to configure things following the guide above.

If the module is not loaded, as root 'modprobe ath9k' should load the module.

Antheros cards are well supported.

I have done this before, and gave up, installing wicd from the extras package on the disk, the internet simply not connecting due to incorrect setting up is not the problem, and the modules are loaded.
My wifi will not turn on, it is constantly set to disabled, and I cannot enable it by pressing the Compaq button, but I don't have this issue in windows(In fedora live it comes on automatically, but if I press it, it goes off and then this issue occurs).
Also in wicd the option to enable wireless is not available, its faded.
