Exclamation Wireless PCMCIA card problems

I got an SMC 2535W-B wireless pcmcia card. I recompiled my kernel to that the computer boots when no card is inserted. When I put the card in and boot the system freezes on sys log. I get a high tone and that is about it. I have tried changing the pcmcia startup script and the init.rc pcmcia file. I have a OZ6912 Card bus controller. The notebook is a HP ze4435us.
