i di yet to update because no conection internet but if i use os windows the wifi is activted? how i enable wifi in linux mint maya 13 iam dualboot with windows 7
Open up a terminal and enter this. Post the output of it. It sounds like you don't have the correct wifi driver installed. That is pretty common with Toshiba laptops in my experience.
Code:
uname -a
lspci -nnk | grep -iA2 net
lsusb
lsmod
iwconfig
rfkill list
cat /etc/resolv.conf
Do you eaven see the AP name in the list or is the problem that it doesen't show up?
Log in to your router access point and check if channel is set to a value or if its set to auto.
If its set to say channel 11 it could be that you computer can see it i had that problem with Xubuntu 13.04
It could not connect to my router (set to ch 11) when i tried to connect to my phone as a hotspot wish was set to auto then it worked every time.
Reconfigured router from channel 11 to auto and it worked right away.
If its set to auto you can also try to set a channel starting with number 1 and go on to see if you receive a connection, sometime auto interfer with neigbours AP running the same channel.
Run those cmds that Rubian posted for you and post the output; please.
The output of those commands will help him greatly in diagnosing what is going on with your Mint.
Kindly post like aus9 has asked of you to another server.
Try what andy78 has explained and answer his question as well.
I know this may sound like a stupid suggestion
BUT
windoze ignores the external wifi switch
SO
you may fix your wifi problem just by making sure the wifi switch is on
The suggestion to check for a hardware switch for wireless is a good one.
What make/model computer?
Please run the command lspci in a terminal and post the output identifying your wireless chipset.
Some wireless chipsets may require drivers over and above those included in the kernel. Realtek and Broadcom, in particular, may require a couple of extra steps to get working.
