wireless network sony vaio with Suse 9.3
I have installed Suse 9.3 on my new sony vgn-fs690, and have configured my network adapter and wireless adapter for my home network. If I boot linux with the ethernet cable in, I have a network connection with the cable. If I boot without the cable, then insert it after booting, no luck. As for the wireless- I have no connection until I reconfigure it after booting, even though I don't change any parameters. I can never establish a wireless connection after booting until I go through configuration with yast. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

When booting are you starting up eth0?
There is a setting in YAST to make eth0 start only when you plug a cable in. I have found on some distros in the past that to get wlan0 working, eth0 must be down first. I have also read that YAST sometimes loses wireless settings when you shutdown so I think it might be a known bug. I don't run SuSE 9.3 but tried it for a short while on my laptop. |
thanks mickyg,
I believe that was the problem. I was able to fix things up in yast, by setting (under advanced details), my ethernet and wirless to start-up "on hotplug" instead of "at boot time". It seems to work now with cable at work, and wireless at home wether plugged in at boot time or not. -gracias |
