Wireless LAN w/ Mdk10 on a Toshiba Satellite Pro 4600
Hi Folks,

I've installed Mandrake 10 RC1 on my Toshiba Satellite Pro 4600. So far, everything, including Internet-Access by Ethernet via Gateway, works fine and i'm quite impressed by Mandrake.

What bugs me is, that WLan declines working, rendering mdk10 useless for me "on the go" and degrading it to something i can just use at home on ethernet.

The Toshiba 4600 has an internal Orinoco WLan Adapter somehow connected to the PCMCI Interface (at least, disabling PCMCIA in Windows shuts down the card, too). So far, i've tracked down the problem to PCMCIA Service not starting because it doesn't find any cards (which is explainable, since none are in the slots, the WLan-Adapter is internal).

I've never messed around with PCMCIA on Linux and feel a little lost, not knowing what to do. Any pointers how i could get my WLan working?

im not sure how ur wlan interface is built in. can you check the output of "lsmod" and look for a module name that matches ur wlan's? in ur case, orinoco_cs or some like that.
you can also check what "dmesg" says relating to the wireless.

in case you haven't, you should get the "wireless-tools" package(rpm to you) and use the utility "iwconfig" that comes with it. it's akin to "ifconfig" for the wireless interface.

orinoco cards are supported, so dont worry - it's only a matter of time and effort before it's up n runnin.
