wireless connection for Vostro 1400 in Debian Squeeze

Evidently I need the firmware for the wireless hardware. I know the device works, because it works fine with Puppy. When I installed the Debian system there was a message about missing firmware, but it went by too fast. I don't know how to identify the device or where to get the firmware. I think I would need it as a Debian package.

Some progress: I was able to identify the wireless hardware, and elsewhere I was given a procedure for installing it. It seems to be installed, because the computer is trying to connect. But it can't connect.

Code:

lspci | grep -i net
Should help id your hardware.
Then have a look for instructions at wiki.debian.org
