Wireless configuration - debian stable on ThinkPad T43

I have both--Windows xp and Debian stable--on Thinkpad T43; No problem connecting to wireless on the Windows side, but cannot connect with Debian stable.
I thought I could fix it by going back to the Debian install disk, but unfortunately the Debian Squeeze install disks seem all to hang at identifying hardware part.
Is there an easy (newbie) fix?
Thanks, Hearthstone.
