wireless card not working on presario f557us

Hi,

I recently installed debian sarge on a presario f557us laptop; this laptop originally comes with vista but I decided to install linux and the only thing that I couldn't get to work is the wireless card.
After searching around I found that a lot of people have trouble getting this card to work, I installed the drivers (which is a whole procedure) as its mentioned here:

ubuntu1501 . blogspot . com/2007/01/fixing-wifi-on-dell-1501 . html
(remove white spaces)

and after I type ndiswrapper -l to see if the procedure worked correctly i get:

$ ndiswrapper -l
bcmwl5 : driver installed
device (14E4:4311) present

which means everything the correct driver and device are good to go, I reboot the thing but the wireless network card just seems to be dead.

$ iwlist scanning
lo Interface doesn't support scanning.

eth0 Interface doesn't support scanning.

sit0 Interface doesn't support scanning.

Is there something I'm doing wrong?
I would appreciate any help and if there's anything else you want me to type please ask me to.

Thanks.

I guess you forgot to load the ndiswrapper module to the kernel; try
Code:
$ sudo modprobe -i ndiswrapper; sudo iwconfig
If anything's okay with the ndiswrapper setup, you should see which interface is configured for wireless; the rest can be done with Network Manager or with iwconfig/dhclient.

If you want to use ndiswrapper, add

modprobe ndiswrapper

to you init scripts somwhere. Probally putting it in boot.local would be fine.

I would also point out that depending on which broadcom card you have, you can probally get NATIVE support without ndiswrapper using the bcm43xx module and bcm43xx-fwcutter
