wireless and modem connection on Acer Extensa 5220
Hello,
I got an Acer Extensa 5220 about a week ago but until now I can not get the wireless connection working on mandriva 2008, although it worked on mepis 6.5 live cd by default My wireless card details ( broadcom corporation bcm94311mcg wlan mini-pci ) about the modem can I get it working too on this laptop (I do not know if it is a winmodem or not and I do not even know how to find out) Thanks. |
Download the scanmodem tool and see what it reports about the modem.
For the nic I am not a Mandriva user but post loaded modules from this command. /sbin/lsmod Next info about the nic. /sbin/lspci -v And kernel version uname -r If fairly new kernel and mandriva has them enabled one may try using b43 module to see if you can get it going. Use the search tool here for searching distro and b43 for more post. If not working because of broadcomm tweak changes to the 43xx chipset then look into ndiswrapper and using the windows inf driver. frankly I did not understand what you told me to do although I tried
should I post any output from the scanmodem and /sbin/lsmod (/sbin/lspci is not working) ? the kernel version:2.6.22.9-laptop-1mdv anyway I got the wireless connection working using the Mandriva Control Center (all I needed was a file:)) so how can I get the modem working? (sorry for late feedback) |
scanmodem should tell you which type of modem because I would think it is a winmodem. Unless it is external serial or one of the rare real modems that exist I would say it is a winmodem. Best tool is scanmodem to find out if it can even be used in linux.

Hi AGazzaz, I happened to see your post.
I have exactly the same wireless card as you (broadcom corporation bcm94311mcg wlan mini-pci ). My laptop is acer 4620z and I managed to install wireless network successfully using UBUNTU 7.10 gutsy. I followed the detail instruction from this: http://invaleed.wordpress.com/2007/1...ci-ubuntu-710/ Hope it helps. |
