Wifi Issue on Ubuntu Jaunty with Fluxbox

I have an antique Dell Latitude CPx PIII 128mb lappy running Jaunty. Wifi works under gnome but gnome is to sloooooooooow so I have installed Fluxbox to lighten the load. How do I get my pcmcia WiFi card to work in Fluxbox? I'm stuck!!

The window manager should have no bearing on whether wifi works or not. What steps (if any) did you have to take at bootup to get it running with Gnome?

I've now abandoned gnome network manager in favour of wicd, hopefully this will solve the issue, the problem I now face is most likely really easy to overcome, my fluxbox desktop doesn't have a visible system tray for the wicd manager to hang around in, what package(s) give this function?

Just type wicd-client at the command line, it should appear on the fluxbox panel (you do have a fluxbox panel right?)
