wich distro on 486 laptop
I have recently gotten an old NEC Versa 2000 D.
It is a 486 35 mb memory 2gb hard drive. I am new to linux and have never put linux on a lap top. I have been running slackware 8.0 on a desktop. Slackware would probably work fine would not have GUI unless someone could suggest an alternative to Gnome and KDE or let me know where I can get on older version that would run good. willing to look at other distros.
Would aprecate any comments on any forseen problems!
I am hoping to be using it for wifi, reading E-books, playing games. Are there any other uses you can think of I can't wait to see what it is capable of.
Hope I gave enough info. Thank you in advance for all the advise.
I am willing to provide any further needed info.

playing games on a 486? Not much you could do there I think other than nethack.....
As for a gui, you could try blackbox, but 35megs of ram is lean indeed.

Slackware would probably work nicely on that laptop.
So would peanut linux I think.... (peanut linux is really small, light, and fast with a GUI)

I'll agree about peanut. I used to use it 2 years ago on an old p133 floppy only laptop and it worked really well. Its very likely it will get the job done for you on that 486.

As for gui you might want to check out pekwm, http://www.pekwm.org. It's pretty light weight but very usable.
