Why does Fedora Core 3 not recognize the dvd-rw capability of my drive?

Hi,

I have a DVD+/-RW drive on my DELL Inspiron 8500 laptop. I am using Fedora Core 3. FC3 recognizes the drive as a DVD+/-R drive. How can I fix this?

Greg.

What do you mean by recognize?

linux does not have the capability of drag and dropping files to a burner like XP. Creating a CD still requires an application like k3b and cdrecord.

What does the output of the following command tell you
dmesg | grep DVD (linux is case sensitive so be sure to use a capital DVD)
