OK - the trio 600 is a phone + palm-OS PDA, so I guess you are trying to synchronise via USB yes? Thing is, you havn't said. You may not be - from what you wrote, you could be trying to phone your PC or access via WLAN.
So: let us in on what you have tried doing - like which palm device app did you try, have you tried other devices before and so on.
many thanks for you reply and soz for replying back sooooooo late i gave up in the end i am now using Mandriva 2006 hope this is more userfriendly then other distro , i want to sync my PDA Acer n35 with the above OS would this be possible if so how i need detail instructions many thanks
I generally like to discourage folk from using linspire unless they are comlete computer novices - Linspire is the most windows-like, which for most people translates into user freindly. However, there are philosophy issues with Linspire: should users really operate entirely as root? I think not but this is how Linspire works.
To sync a pilot device, you should use an app called xpilot (the x is a g, a j or a k depending...) You plug into the cradle and press the hotsync button.
Usually this will sync with mozilla and evolution, so these should be installed also. I don't know about others.
This is a fun test to match your personality and experience with a major linux distro. Even if you disagree with the results, it makes a great point of departure.
Just as a note, I have a treo 600 and am using Suse 10.0 (FWIW) and I noticed something odd about syncing.
If I turn on my laptop and plug in the treo 600 without plugging any other USB devices in, it's fine. But I normally use a USB keyboard + mouse and then hook in the treo...and it doesn't get detected at all.
I have no idea why, I've googled it and I dont seem to see anyone having the same problem, maybe most people aren'y syncing with a laptop...or maybe they are and I just have bad luck.
Either way try having it as the only usb device on the system just for the heck of it and see what happens...fwiw also I'm using Kontact, but I have kpilot doing the sync'in.
Yeah - that would be difficult to google all right.
Take a look at what dmesg is saying about this.
When you plug the trio in, it should say something about a new usb device, what it thinks it is, and what driver gets loaded for it. Take a look for both ways (with and without HID).
I have had trouble before with the wrong module claiming a PDA - in my case an iPAQ got claimed by the storage module if a camera had been previously plugged in. It seems to have cleared up in later kernels - the only workaround was to modprobe the needed module before plugging the camera in. Maybe this is what you need to do?
If you plug the trio in and then add the HID stuff, does it get "undetected"?

That's exactly what happens. But this wont be a problem anymore because I've sold this cursed laptop as of tomorrow. [rant] The SIS chipset that's in it is NOT LINUX FRIENDLY (everyone take note don't buy an SIS chipset based laptop, the NIC / ACPI / Wireless(haha) / and video will all give you problems [/rant]
