Post Why are there two config files for X? (Part of The Thinkpad 600 Project)

When I had Mandrake 9.0 there was one config file- /etc/X11/XF86Config. Now there is also one called XF86Config-4. They both contain the same information, although in slightly different styles.

What is the difference between the two?
If -4 is a new version why is the old one still there and does it actually make any difference? (If I change something in one, do I have to change it in the other?)
Why -4?

Thanks in advance
Simon

Iīm using a Gericom 1st Supersonic Per4mance but wouldnīt prefer it to anyone. It has so many problems with Unix similar systems, e.g. the network-controller (normally it is on IRQ 10, but generic kernels are using then IRQ 11, so you have to patch the kernel), ps/2 with x-server is another problem, and it is very loud and very slow although the 2 GHz CPU or 256 DDR-Ram and the graphic-chip is another problem. It has a sis 650 chip, but running in framebuffer mode, so the max frames I get with glxgears was 50, on my pc with Radeon 9000 I got 1500 frames...And the manufacturer sis hasnīt got a good support to his chip, also Gericom itself.
