Which new laptop for Ubuntu/Kubuntu?

Hi all. Newbieish here.
I'm looking to buy a new laptop to run Ubuntu/Kubuntu, and I'm after spending £300-£400. Any suggestions? I'm aware that I can get a dell Inspiron, which will be fine (it's for my Girlfriend to browse the internet - that's all). However, Dell won't ship to work address. I'll happily buy a mavhine and install Linux myself. I can always sell the windows license.
Any suggestions? A google search doesn't give away much - at the moment it's looking like Dell might be the only choice.
Thanks for any advice,
Mike

Hi -

For whatever it's worth, I'm happily running Simply Mepis 6.5 (an Ubuntu variant) on my Gateway laptop.

SUGGESTION:
If you have sufficient disk space, you might wish to dual-boot (you can keep your pre-installed OS *and* have Linux, too!)

From my personal experience, HP-Compaq laptops are very good with Ubuntu. Have a look at tuxmobil and look at peoples experiences.

I have one the top end models from these people. I've seen a few posts from people saying they have K/Ubuntu going on them. Mandriva certainly gets all bar the built in webcam going (and I'm progressing with that).

Have a look here:

For recommendations of whichever model suits you best. I think they're good; machine I've bought absolutely flies.

BTW, it doesn't come preinstalled, but you can order it without an OS. Much better than Dell, it simply shows you cost with and without the Microsoft Tax.
