Which laptop models are the best?

Does anybody have any recommendations for laptop models that are reasonably priced and fairly easy to install and use Linux? I'm using Mdr 2005 if that's of any importance. :-)

I have experienced using Mdk 10.0 on a Dell Latitude D600. Everything was fairly smooth with two exceptions:
- I had to use OSS sound, but I frequently get an error message when KDE starts stating that the sound server cannot start. How can I remedy this?
- The diskette and CD drives are mutually-exclusive and, as I needed the CD to install, it didn't find the diskette. How can I get it to recognise the diskette after installation?

TIA for any suggestions.
- QS Computing.

Hello,

I have an Acer Travelmate 662 LCi, and everything works almost out of the box, except the 1400x1024 resolution. I think the 2xx series are great.

Your problem with OSS: OSS is out of date, try using ALSA, should be installed in MDK 2005.

I don't have any experiences in diskette drives, sorry, I don't use it

I tried ALSA but it caused the internal speaker to emit a high-pitched continuous noise whilst the sound server was running. The only way to solve it (without going insane from the noise) was to reinstall Mdk from the CDs, using OSS.
