Now to spark the age old debate:
Which distribution of Linux should i use?
For me it's not a question of what feels or looks good, I'm just looking for something that actually works! I've had several problems installing Linux such as Display not working with Ubuntu, and no internet connection with MEPIS, Mandrake just not installing, etc. So right now i'm just asking if there's anyone out there who has a Dell Inspiron 2200 with the same specs as shown below or someone who knows what distribution should be compatible, that could recommend something to me. Keep in mind i'd like to be able to download it rather than purchase a boxed set, as i'm cheap and would rather not wait the mailing time, plus I'm fairly new to the Linux world, so any problem that arises I'd like to have step by step instructions or a link to a tutorial that's plain and simple.
Well this days my usual answer is... Get Gentoo! But I just happen to have installed Linux on a Laptop almost like yours (for a girlfriend of mine who got tired of listening to me rant about Linux and how much Window$ sucks).
I didnt want her waiting till I compiled everything so I installed Kubuntu on her laptop. Got some problems (solved in the kubuntu, gentoo and lq forums) but after just one day got it working perfectly. give it a try. A friend of mine (who kind of specializes in Linux + Laptops) also recommends FC4.
