Which *nix for a Lenovo Y510p

Which *nix distros are best (easiest? most compatible with?) a Lenovo "IdeaPad" Y510p?

Thank you in advance.

you should try some booting off usb stick. You can prepare stick with these instructions.
Ubuntu would be recomended to start with.

Anything should run on that. It really depends on your preferred GUI: Mint for Mate, Cinnamon, or Xfce; PCLinuxOS for KDE. Get Ubuntu if you like your computer to look like it's turned into a smart-phone, and are happy with spyware and a company that practices tax avoidance.

Before starting this thread, I had done some research, including some googling. It seems that this machine, unlike earlier Lenovo products, is a bit unix-hostile. In my googling, I found references to problems, to people unable to get a nix working on this machine. Things like no audio, black screen, no USB and refusal to boot. I recall one thread were someone had it working with Fedora, but he'd had a struggle. He'd had to get drivers direct from the various manufacturers and recompile his kernel and I think he still had to boot in text mod and manually type "startx" every time.

So if anyone here with this machine has actually gotten a nix to work on it: please, I'd be delighted to hear about it. Thank you very much.

p.s. I don't actually have the machine, yet. This thread is part of an effort to Be Prepared ahead of time.

p.p.s. (off topic) Lol on your description of Ubunto. :D Some years ago I'd tried Ubuntu. Its inability to play mp3s turned me off to it. People said to me, "use another repository," and I said, "that's the same as using another distro, right?" so I trashed Ubunto and used another distro. ;)

So it turns out that Mint 15 Cinnimon version will work, at least it worked for one person. Link:
