what does RH9 call my Dell outboard floppy?

I've got a latitude with a floppy drive that connects to the rear plug and I want to get some files off it but I don't know what path to give gnome. /dev/? perhaps? or something else. Thanks.

Try:

mount /mnt/floppy

Should be able to read and write to it now. You have to unmount before you eject though.

umount /mnt/floppy

You can do all this graphically on RH 9.0 also.

I too have an external floppy and I can't format it.

gfloppy or doing it graphically and it says 'cannot open device /dev/fp0'. This is very annoying, as I don't know how to chance it. Have tried gfloppy manuals and info.

OK, typing that at a terminal got it to show up on the gnome desktop even though the files were unreadable. Thanks.

Just try writing a simple text file to /mnt/floppy.

Unmount, remount and try and read it. Then you will know if it is working ok.

Took me a few hours to sort my external USB floppy out myself (although I can't format), I guess this is the cost of migrating from windows!

OK...I can read/write to the mounted drive but can't seem to eject by command to terminal. anyone know the correct syntax. I have tried eject /mnt/floppy and eject /dev/fd0 but they just give errors. Once umounting and then ejecting from my desktop worked but just now umounting removed the image from desktop so I remounted and then tried to graphically eject and that just seemed to umount.
