What 's the difference between SD card and MMC card

I wonder if I can use the same way to access a SD card with a MMC card?
Where can I obtain a Linux MMC/SD Card driver? I have tried the FTP site of handheld.org,but It's to slow to download.

SD are faster and a bit more durable. At least theoretically.

The SD is automatically mounted as RAM on the Zaurus. For my laptop and tower I use a USB card reader - standard cheapo four card unit from the local Windoze Weenie Emporium. Just plug the card and the reader into a USB port and do a cdrecord --scanbus. It should show up. Mine is usually /dev/sda1 on the laptop. No additional drivers were required using Red Hat 7.x to 9, Fedora Core 1, or SuSE 8.x. It is probably the same for most distros.

SD is also more reliable and has the ability to write protect. however the zaurus ignores the write protection.
