Smile Want to install fedora 6 on toshiba satellite pro 440 CDX through network using 3com

happy new year to all............

hi,
I am using a toshiba satellite pro 440 CDX having pentium 133 mmx processor and 144 mb ram and 4.4 GB hard drive. I have got win 98 on primary partition of 2000 mb and dsl on 400 mb(it's awesome). Have got da remaining space free actually have installed red hat 9 on dat but now i want to install either fedora 6 or rhel 4 on da remaining partition. I have got a 3com 3CCFE574BT (3c574 series) using which i want to install fedora. Now da thing is dat after i choose installation method to nfs, it asks for network drivers which if selected from it's database doesn't works. Me thinks i'll have to give some optional parameters wid this... or a different way to do dis cud be by having some driver(module package for it.. if someone has got it..)
I am using both of da above distro fully functional. Sound and all other things are working in my win 98 and dsl (have fixed it)... And even in my red hat 9 i have fixed everything, nic(3com) and my sound card wasn't working first but den i fixed it.. But i want to use kernel 2.6.x series wid all new applications...

Let me know da optional parameters which needs to be given at da time of nfs installation of fedora 6 using 3com's 3CCFE574BT

Thanx for just reading all dis

I am also running DSL on a toshiba satelite pro 440 cdx... Could you give a little detail on how you got the sound card working?

I'm cannot get the lan card to work... It might be that the card itself (3com 3C589DTP) is defective, or it could be the adapter cable that the lan cable plugs into (the lights don't respond at all, and my hub's connection light stays off). I'm not sure where to look to see if the device has been recognized, as I am relatively new to linux in general. :-/

"Thank you.."

No, thank you, such a speedy response too. :-) I haven't really helped you :-/
I must say, that ol' laptop performs a lot better than I thought it would. Are you on yours all the time, or is it a secondary?

I'm not quite sure what I will be using my 440cdx for yet. I will probably just use it at school for word processing, and minor entertainment between classes.

add the following line to the /opt/bootlocal.sh :

modprobe opl3sa2 io=0x370 mss_io=0x530 mpu_io=0x330 irq=5 dma=1 dma2=0

The above is all on one line
Put it in /opt/bootlocal.sh and it'll run every time you start the laptop. It'll give some sort of warning before showing the login and password option but it doesn't matter cause it works..

And about old laptops i really love my toshiba 440 CDX. I don't have enough money to buy a new one, will surely think of going for one after getting some amount but man i must say that i am not going to discard this one as i have just learnt everything on this. I do have another my own assembled pc, it's amd 2200+ with asuss (av7nm) motherboard. It is also nice but this is more than nice for me.. Can you tell me from where i can get dvdrom for my toshiba satellite pro 440 CDX. I am not getting much time otherwise i'll try to help you with your network card also.. Thank You

Hmm, should any laptop size drive work in place of the floppy? I'm sure external usb drives should work.. (for your dvd)

Anyway, my 440cdx's mouse mysteriously stopped working. :-/ I've tried plugging in my PC's ps/2 mouse, and that doesn't seem to work with it either. It looks like I'm going to give up on this.

Smile I have also got some problem with my laptops' keyboard

Hi,
Try to blow some air on the slot and then plug in your ps2 mouse and do check if it works it is working on windows if you have one.
I do have a query. Do you know from where i can get dvd rom for my cdx440 and is dvd rom compatible with my laptop.
I am also facing problem with my keyboard as my backspace key as well as some other keys on right side are not working. I have to press some other key to make them work. For eg:- i have to press caps-lock key along with backspace to delete some alphabets... DO you have any solution for this. I think there is some hardware fault, have once thought of opening it but haven't till now.. Will one day..

there is no option in the bios for booting from network or some other usb source. I have flashed the bios but then even, have not got other options for booting the system
