want 1024x768 laptop to do 1280x1024 on vga out x11
 

hi

i have a debian laptop which has a 1024x768 builtin screen, acer travelmate
(ati rage mobility).

at work i got an lcd monitor which goes upto 1280x1024, but when i connect it
to the vga out from my laptop, i get only 1024x768. i added the extra resolution
modes to dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86, but when i hit shift-alt-+ the
xterms fonts get smaller but the resolution itself remains the same. (i hit fn-f5 to
turn off the laptop's screen and only have the vga output).

is there any way to get my laptop to produce 1280x1024 for the monitor
at work?
