VPR Matrix180B5 Mandrake 9.1 logout problem.

Tried installed Mandrake 9.1 and everytime I logout the laptop just crashed (cap locks no longer work - tat's how I tell). Is this the problem with the video driver (Radeon 700)? I'm think of booting w/o X started, haven't tried but u think it would work. Or is there any other fix?

I have exactly the same problem with my laptop which uses a mobility radeon 9000. Even in the console I cannot use the "login" command.
