Has anyone tried Linux on a netbook with VIA WM8500-8505 cpu?

Yes. Someone has. It works. I'll tell you that without having first-hand knowledge.

(on the other hand, according to google, the VM8500 is a hitachi videorecorder and not a VIA CPU)...
