I just installed ubuntu studio 7.04 on an Acer Travelmate 2420. Everything works great, but I cannot figure out how to enable the VGA out, so that I can connect an LCD projector for slide shows.
I tried using the package i810switch, but the output was shimmering and was incomplete (part of the view was missing).
Yeah... this laptop has an Intel 915 chipset.
So if someone could please help me out... I'm supposed to present a paper in a couple of weeks, and I'd like to do it on linux.
Distribution: RHEL/CentOS/SL 5 i386 and x86_64 pata for IDE in use

Try plugging in the projector first to the laptop before powering on on the laptop.
The Fn+F6 key combo should work also, try holding down the Fn key and tapping the F6 key.
The Fn key is in the lower left-hand side of the keyboard and the lettering on the key is blue.
I am a lecturer at University and currently using Kubuntu 7.04. I added some configuration on my xorg.conf in order to get dual display on my notebook and LCD projector. Here some lines were added (please see BOLD CHARACTERS):
For some new LCD Projectors it works well, but for older ones I got message "unsupported signal" or something like that. Or sometime it shows but flickering.
It seems that the projector doesn't catch-up the frequency.
thanks for providing support, I have the same sort of problem:
I'm currently trying to connect my laptop acer travelmate 2420 on a projector toshiba tlp s10. Laptop shows perfectly on projector while logging but once logged on there's no input. I have tried Fn plus f1 to f12 keys trick but nothing happens. I also tried to click right desktop then settings but there's nowhere I can fix this.

Posting a new thread would have been preferred, instead of digging up an old one.
I found a way to show the laptop on the pojector by clicking right on destok then graphic options then output to monitor. But now I'm facing the screen resolution problem for which I guess I need to provide the information you are asking me that I still haven't found, except, possibly, 1200 x 800 pixels?
good guess this is what I intended to say then: by reducing the resolution to the minimum (800 x 600) I partially solved the problem. I'd say that its good enough to project. Never heard of Linux until today. One learns everyday. But, who knows, my newbie's posts here might help somebody else's struggling like I did and benefit from it.
