Smile used magnets to clear HD on eeepc 1000hd ( is it ok) and how to install linux

tried to boot umbutu from a usb flash drive. I set the boot order to read the usb first but I get "disk error" The hd used to have win xp and I could not type anything into a windows text field. I could not get access to the system administrator account to restore windows. Windows would not log me out or stand down, it just kept cycling back on. I bought this notebook eeepc 1000hd broken to learn from it and I also have a 1000 linux os which i love. The rare earth magnets seem to have erased the hd to 0 but maybe i ruined it? I would like to install ssd if the hd is ruined I will find the 4g cheepest ssd to learn how to install. The boot up disk error also would happen when I tried to boot before when the hd had xp on it which gives me hope that the hd may be fine. I don't see that the computer is able to recognize the flash drive although it lists it when it asks where i want to boot from? Any advice is greatly appreciated

You can't uninstall an OS, at least not the way you can uninstall a program.

Reformat the partition it's on.
