Urgento!!!major newb here

Ok i have a Comapaq presario 1245...i decided to install Fc2 on it...tested the media everything is a pass. SO i start the install..first it couldnt choose my monitor so i just left it as unprobed(i told that was fine), i install the defualt programs (gnome etc....) but, ha this is where it gets funny, at about 65% the install stops i get kill signals and the system reboots leaving me with a useless comp cause of the lack of an os. I have no idea why it does this and it has done it five times....is it the disc? i always tried inserting the 2,3,4 discs to "update" which it does, but i can never boot it....ugh...help me please this is an act of utter desperation.

It'll need to at least be able to install a bootloader. What kind of error messages, if any, do you get?

I also have a Presario 1245. I have not installed Linux on the HD yet, but I have used Damn Small Linux and Knoppix on CD's. I did this to learn a little about the 1245 before I installed. BTW, I got here because the HD is dying on the 1245.

Things I learned so far, the monitor will only work in frame buffer mode with a maximum resolution of 800x600. It is a 300 Mhz Pentium 1, so we are not talking power house here. If I were you, install a smaller and faster desktop. IceVm for example, there are others. They are not as pretty, but you will gain acceptable performance.

I have never installed FC2, I'm sure there are others here that can help you out with it.

Hope my experience will help you out.

You might try another distribution, e.g., Mepis. I'm a Slackware user myself, but I've installed Mepis on several very different machines, new and old, and it has a very good installation routine with excellent hardware autodetection and autoconfiguration of your monitor, etc. Plus, you can get it on a single CD.

i guess your hard disk was running out of space by 65%..

i dont' think its the fc2 discs but check for scratches/marks anyway in case.
