URGENT: CPU isn't scaling

Sorry to put urgent in front but my lappy is getting way to hot now :(

I think ACPI isn't working.

With Klaptop tool I have tried to set it to different levels but that doesn't change a thing.

Also, the cpu's top speed is 1800Mhz and now it seems stuck at 1600Mhz.

I checked for the scaling config and there the 3 scalings are available, 1800000 1600000 and 800000.

I tried manually: echo -n 800000 > scaling_setspeed but nothing happens.

Help pls .........

One option would be to turn off SpeedStep in the BIOS. That made my Dell run cooler, battery last longer and I didn't notice much of a slow down.

what distro are you using?

do you have scaling enabled in the kernel?

do you have a cpu scaling daemon on your computer(cpufreqd, cpudyn, etc.)?
