Updated to ubuntu 10.04 now have no sound on toshiba l355d laptop
 

Ok I am new to Ubuntu. Had been running 9.10 and it was fine. Updated to 10.04 and it took quite a while. Computer re started, all seemed fine. Watched some videos. Turned comp off and on several times. Then on one restart, no sound. Gnome alsa mixer opens but shows nothing. When click default sound card it starts then just vanishes. All volumes I can access turned all the way up. Headphones do not work either. When I access sound hardware it shows no device to configure, idk what to think? Tried to do alsa update here:

It still does not work. I know something is wrong I just am not smart enough to fix it. Sigh. lol
When I do this as recommended on that website, I typed this in terminal.

cat /proc/asound/version
Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.23.
Compiled on May 2 2010 for kernel 2.6.32-21-generic (SMP).

And terminal said back:

So ya. please any help is appreciated, sorry for being too dumb to fix this on my own, but I'll take any help thrown my way with gratitude.

Um, idk exactly what you mean? Since it won't display. But thanks for the reply, anyways. ;)

Thank you. Still no sound, tho. I am just going back to 9.10. Maybe later I can try it when they come out with the next release. And I loved all the purple, lol. Oh, well. Thanks for trying to help. Just seems like these Azelea sound cards don't wanna get along. :)

Most people find "upgrading" fails sometimes.
Make a backup of your personal files, and try a fresh install of 10.04, or just install it to a spare partition.

Thanks. That is actually a very good idea. I ordered a new hd for my laptop, I'm gonna set up (well, try lol) a dual boot with vista (I have a couple accessories that need it, or I wouldn't even bother) and 10.04. Wish me luck! :)
