Angry Unable to reboot SUSE 9.2 after successful install

Hi. Nice new Mesh notebook - rebadged Clevo D470K - AMD Athalon 64 3400. Dual boot Win XP & (hopefully) SUSE 9.2 using Grub to do the boot. Windows is fine, however ....

SUSE installed OK, no issues, able to connect to internet, able to create users & could play around in KDE. Then I shutdown (from KDE). Now I cannot boot to either runlevel 3 or 5. At first it seemed to hang at some point after loading keymap, so I disabled hwscan (using chkconfig). This was partially successful, but not completely so.

I next set COMPOSETABLE="" in the keyboard file - it seemed like a good idea.

Now boot "hangs" at the next step "Starting Firewall Initialization (2 of 3)".

Any clues / suggestions as to where I go from here would be appreciated.

Regards, malcolm

sorry i dont know much about suse, but i know that if you want to start your system, you can pop in the cd or dvd. After initalizing the installation you can choose if you want to Reinstall Suse or Repair it. IMHO the last point in this menu is "Boot suse", and i think if you boot suse with this option you become a running system, where you can deactivate the firewall.

a year ago a had a simmilarly problem and this method runs on the systems with suse 8.1 and suse 9.0, i dont know if it also runs with newer systems. but you can try it...

greets willi

Say no to SuSE GRUB, use LILO - it looks the same if thats what you're worried about, and works better.
