Unable to mount a usb drive

Hi everyone,

I'm using FC2 on a thinkpad and having trouble mounting a 80GB usb
drive. When I plugged in the device, nothing comes up on my desktop,
as opposed to a usb thumb drive. I've done some google search and
found that usually a usb drive is mounted under /dev/sdax or /dev/sdbx where x is a number. I however cannot find any sdax or sdbx under my
/dev.

Here is the bottom part of my dmesg once I plugged in the usb drive:
-----Starts here-----
usb 2-2: new full speed USB device using address 3
SCSI subsystem initialized
Initializing USB Mass Storage driver...
scsi0 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices
usb 2-2: reset full speed USB device using address 3
scsi: Device offlined - not ready after error recovery: host 0 channel 0 id 0 lun 0
USB Mass Storage device found at 3
usbcore: registered new driver usb-storage
USB Mass Storage support registered.
-----Ends here-----

This usb drive works fine under XP Pro.

Any comments or suggestions are gratefully appreciated. Thank you all
in advance!

The info that you have provided seems insufficient
please post tail -20 /var/log/messages
(just after plugging in the drive).

what kernel version are you using? I googled your error
Quote:
scsi: Device offlined - not ready after error recovery
and it seems it is a problem with the scsi driver in the kernel
