Unable to detect hdd

I tried dual-booting with WinXP and Ubuntu using Wubi. Now, apparently my Win installation can't find hal.dll and i wanted to replace it but now it can't find my hdd so i can't repair it.

My computer is a notebook NC6320 from HP. Link to my computer @ HP.

Now i want to know what i should do so that a live distribution might detect my hdd? I couldn't find any resources on how to add drivers to a live distro.

Please let me know if you need more information.

I'm not sure I understand what you want. A LiveCD/Live Distributions usually has a kernel compiled with lots of modules (drivers if you prefer) to supports more hardware (this is not Windoze ). If you want to mount your hard drive from a LiveCD, Gentoo or Ubuntu for example, do:
# mkdir /mnt/mountpoint
# mount -t auto /dev/hd[a | b | c | d][#] /mnt/mountpoint
hd[a | b | c | d] means hda, hdb, hdc or hdd which corresponds to your installed hard drives.
[#] is the partition number of the respective hard drive.
Example: # mount -t vfat /dev/hdb1 /mnt/mymount will mount the first FAT partition on the second hard drive in the /mnt/mymount folder.
If you have SATA hard drives, hd is replaced by sd (sda, sdb, sdc, sdd).
