Ubuntu 8.10 on HP laptop
Hi,
I have installed ubuntu 8.10 on HP dv4 1042 laptop. everything is working fine except for the sound. for some reason it couldnt recognize the sound card. so everytime when i start, in the login window it starts with these ding dong....sound for a while but stops after i login. but then nothing. no sound at all... anyone have any solution or anyone tried to install ubuntu on this laptop before? PS. i've also installed ubuntu on my desktop and everything there working great. actually loving it. |
the ding dong sound's presence itself pretty much tells that the sound card has been detected !!
what else did you try to do that made u conclusion the osund doesnt work |
Even i have the same problem with Ubuntu 8.04 on a compaq laptop. When i try to test the sound devices I get that ding dong sound again. It stops only when i mute 'Front' on my volume control. Tried a lot of things from the net.
1)Adding options snd-hda-intel model=laptop in '/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base' reloading alsa. 2) Also tried changing device to generic 8086 OSS Mixer. Nothing's working. Sysinfo: Release - 8.04 Gnome - 2.22.3 Kernel - 2.6.24.24-generic Sysinfo shows the following for sound card. Intel Corporation 82801I(ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03) Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Unknown Device 3607 Help!! It's damn frustrating on a new laptop |
