Ubuntu 8.10: Konqueror kde4 with diminished functionality or is it a bug?
 

Hi folks,

For some time I have tried to work with the Gnome FileManager but this program does not please me as I am accustomed to Konqueror.
I use it for file management and for ftp.
After I installed Konqueror kde4 and started it for the first time I was disappointed.
File management is impossible. I have the sidebar open and click on the 'root' button: nothing happens. The view pane keeps inviting me to "Conquer your Desktop!".
I'd love to ...
Is there a setting of which I don't yet know or is it a bug?
Any help is welcome.

I'm no expert on KDE, but I share your impression. Konqueror 3.5.10 is a great tool, whereas Konqueror 4.2.2 appears to be hampered by many shortcomings, some of which seem to be desired by the development team - they've introduced a new app, Dolphin, to compensate for that. Again, I'm in no position to join into the discussion, and maybe your problem can be fixed by setting some options, but main problems are inherent in the path the KDE4 has taken with Konqueror.
