Ubuntu 5.04 and Acer Travelmate 8103

This is the third distro I have tried. It is also the third that has failed. I don't know what the problem is this time. It says, "uncompressing linux.............okay booting the kernal." And then it sits there. I left it there for over a day and it didn't move. The CD stops spinning and nothing happens.

Anybody got an idea?

Hmmm... your problem sounds like something similar to an experiance I have had getting my laptop to dual-boot. I would suggest checking your BIOS for any settings/options specific to memory and booting.

When does this failure occur? When you first insert the CD into the drive? Or once you have installed and are rebooting? Have you tried following your distro's instructions on making a boot floppy disk and trying to boot from that? Do you have any additional hardware attached to your computer? (i.e. external mouse/keyboard, external HDD, webcams, etc)

Hello aciesd,

I also have a 8103 and Kubuntu 5.10 and Mandriva 2006 December Club, can be installed. One of the option needed to boot the kernel is "noapic"

Ask me if you still want more information...
