I have just installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my toshiba A100 laptop (model #PSAAKC-VA104C).
When I put the computer on sleep (suspend) mode (via the system menu or pressing the power button once) the computer does go into sleep mode. Here is the trouble, it wakes up, but nothing appears on the screen
I have to hold down the power button to force it to shutdown. Turning back the computer ON won't solve the issue ?!? Screen is still blank. I have to remove the battery, put it back again and then turn the computer on.
Where should I start? Please help.
Claude

Reason: Change the wording sleep to suspend
Try checkin logs, hardware and ubuntu seem to be pretty incompatible with alternative poweroff modes..
But why do you need to put computer into sleep?
Hybernate, shutdown (10.04 shuts down quickly) or use Distrubuted computing to keep it busy.
Mine does the same thing, resumes to a blank screen. This was also a problem in 9.10. Reading the ubuntu forums it appears many folks have this issue and looked to the Ubuntu folks for a fix, one was never issued. So this is an on-going problem, if you search around on the other forums there are some explanations as to why it occurs and perhaps some workarounds. Hibernate on my Toshiba laptop resumes fine, it's just the standby that fails to resume.
I have the same problem on my Acer Aspire 5535 with an ATI 3200 hd video card. I resume to a black screen. I did install the prop. drivers it suggested on initial boot. FYI, I am running a dual boot with win7.
I've been having the same issue but only in the past few days. It looks like something was updated and now sleep mode doesn't work. The display turns off but my laptop stays on (when it's on sleep mode the fans stop and the power light blinks, but this no longer happens).
I have to turn off the power and restart to get back. It's pretty annoying
I also have dual boot with windows 7. Doubt that will effect it but its worth mentioning I guess.
My laptop is an HP Pavilion dv9560ea
