Ubuntu 10.04 on the ThinkPad R51e not working right
I have a ThinkPad R51e with a 40 GB hard drive that runs Ubuntu 8.04 really good, don't have any problems with it outside of the fact that it will not be supported next year. I have been trying to get 10.04 to work, I have had it running alongside 8.04 and I have tried various versions of 10.04, Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Ubuntu Netbook Edition, etc. I have tried numerous times trying different things only to go back to 8.04 because when I go on the internet the computer suddenly becomes very slow, waiting forever for web pages to load. What is wrong? I probably should also mention that I am using a wireless connection through my router, I wouldn't think that would be the problem seeing that 8.04 handles everything great everytime I go back to it.

If me. I would compare what driver for wireless is being used in Ubuntu 8.04 and compare it with the wireless driver in Ubuntu 10.04 to rule out a Wireless problem first. Signal strength and MB comparison also.
I guess you are using Gnome on both Distros releases. I would also check the video driver comparisons between both distros. Ubuntu 8.04 may be using Vesa while Ubuntu 10.04 may be using something else. Hard to say with info provided. |
