Ubuntu 10.04 on Dell Inspiron 1521 : Wired and Wireless Internet will not work
I have downloaded Ubuntu 10.04 onto my Dell Inspiron 1521 lap top and the internet does not work. Even when I plug my computer directly into the rj-45 port into the wall with an ethernet cable it still does not work.
I've been trying to get this fixed for the past week, any help would be greatly appreciated.
The wireless issue is likely Broadcom related, as Dell does like Broadcom for wireless. I have Broadcom on both my Dells (1545n laptop and Mini 9 netbook).
What is the output of these two commands, being sure to surround it with "code" tags, which become available when you click the "Go Advanced" button to the right of the "Post Quick Reply" button at the bottom of the reply window:

How new is the computer? One thing you will have problems with (unless that is a typo in your post) is getting any kind of updates if you actually have Ubuntu 10.04 as support for it ended in May, 2013.
Distribution: Debian Wheezy, Jessie, Sid/Experimental, playing with LFS.

Spot on. If the OP must have Ubuntu I would suggest 12.04 or wait till April and get 14.04 as they are both LTS releases.
the laptop is pretty old , its at least from 2007. I think that I may try and download a later version of eclipse instead. Thank you for everyone that responded to my post, thank you again.
You were given specific commands back in February you could have used to easily troubleshoot the issue (but you chose not to). It also pointed out that 10.04 is obsolete and therefore unsuitable as a development platform.
But by all means, download a later version of eclipse, if you think that is what's causing the problem.
