Question Ubuntu 10.04.2 lost my laptop 1.4M floppy drive.

Hi folks! Been using 8.04 and 9.10 on my old laptop, floppy drive all OK. Now on 10.04.2 and the drive just does not appear to exist. Is this because most modern laptops (and perhaps PCs)do not have one? While the use of a floppy is no longer main line, they do provide a quick and easy means of moving smallish lumps of software between computers etc., Any clues about this ?

You would need to load the floppy module to the kernel and other small tasks in order to get your floppy working.
See this thread, specifically post #10.

or if you do not need the 3.5 floppy to mount all the time at boot
manually mount it
modprobe floppy
then insert the disk after you here the drive zz--zz .

seeing as there are NO NEW floppy disks being made - what there is, is all that is left in the world .
and you can not buy a new computer with a 3.5 drive .
The module is no longer being set by default.
