trying to configure sound on ibm thinkpad 600 with slackware 10.0

alsaconf gives me some horrible bleeps and it doesn't configure it properly when it searches for a proper sound card.

i've added some lines to modprobe.conf, i reboot, but still, no sound.
alias snd-card-0 snd-cs4236
alias sound-slot-0 snd-cs4236
options snd device_mode=0666
options snd-cs4236 index=0 port=0x530 cport=0x538 isapnp=0 dma1=1 dma2=0 irq=5 mpu_port=-1 fm_port=0x388

is modprobe supposed to be a blank file?

please help.

Hello.

Normally all the modprobing is done through /etc/rc.d/rc.modules. I would go into your kernel's source directory and use "make menuconfig" to make sure that you have all the ALSA stuff you need compiled as modules. For that matter, you could try just typing "lsmod" and see if you have what you need already loaded (if you know which ones they are).

Good luck.
