hello people
yeah i have fedora core2 installed on my presario 2100 (2108 cl) 2.2ghz compaq hp 2* 256 ram, 64 shared ati graphic, well after having a very hardtime i finaly mangaed to get the touchpad tapping working however it does things sometimes such as jumping around when im typing...so i have to turn it off...is there a way to setup the touchpad....and anothe thing is that i can't get my broadcom wireless working i even tryed the site that gives the 30 day trial(asked for widows .inf driver) but that didn't work either...so has anyone come up with the driver....please let me know
thank you very much
karan
Don't know about your mouse problem but I got my broadcom wireless card to work by activating it. I'd installed the drivers but it wasn't activated or configured properly. In SuSE I used YAST but I'm not sure how to do it in Fedora. I used Linuxant's driverloader and I just emailed them and they emailed me back within 10 minutes telling me what to do. I had a few more questions and they answered them all promptly.
You should try ndiswrapper. As for the touchpad, be sure to read the documentation. I use the synaptics driver and it works like a charm -- now that I actually know how it works
thank you very much for ur help however
I downloaded the file on INSTALL file it says:
" make sure there is a link to your source from the modules director: lib/modules/<version>/build should be a link to the kernel source where <version> is the version of ur kernel" well I guess mine doesn't have the link because I'm getting this error after i type make install as root:
make -C driver install
make[1]: Entering directory `/home/karan/Desktop/appz/ndiswrapper-0.11/driver'
make -C /lib/modules/2.6.3-7mdk/build SUBDIRS=/home/karan/Desktop/appz/ndiswrapper-0.11/driver \
NDISWRAPPER_VERSION=0.11 \
EXTRA_VERSION= modules
make: *** /lib/modules/2.6.3-7mdk/build: No such file or directory. Stop.
make: Entering an unknown directorymake: Leaving an unknown directorymake[1]: *** [default] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/karan/Desktop/appz/ndiswrapper-0.11/driver'
make: *** [install] Error 2
would you help me how to make the link to the source ..(my kernel version is:
uname -a
Linux localhost 2.6.3-7mdk #1 Wed Mar 17 15:56:42 CET 2004 i686 unknown unknown GNU/Linux
)
thank you
karan
Well for one thing, you could build your own kernel -- which is good for various other reasons... And since it says you need a link to your kernel source you kind of have to. Try installing the kernel-source package, or kernel-source-<version>. Then find a howto by Google, eg. "2.6 kernel compiling howto" if you're using 2.6.
Hi!
Sorry for offtopic...but I want to buy such notebook and want to know will all hardware supported in linux.
but did you successfully start X on ati mobitlity radeon with 3D support?Or it works using simple vesa driver?
Did you test on it any opengl application?
hello stormik_
well, i've tried mandrake 10, fedora core 2 and fedora core 3 with this laptop. Only Fedora core 3 could successfully install the synaptic touchpad other 2 operating systems i had difficulties installing the drivers and get it working.
The other thing is that I have a built in wireless card "Broadcom" which non of the 3 OS have the drivers for it. So I still can't use my wireless modem.
About the graphic card I've had no problem with it with any of the OS's but in Fedora 2 and 3 at booting I'm getting the messega saying "The ati Redeon no completely testes..." something like this however I haven't had any problem with the graphics....
about the the battry life it gives u 3 hrs on windows xp and 3 hours on fedora core 3. I had problem with acpi on mandrake 10. Fedora core 2 used more battries. (ofcourse all this depends on how you use the computer, for these times I usually have been working with emacs or searching the web...no working with dvd rom or anything else)
