touchpad issues in mandriva 2010

Hi folks,
I have problems with scrolls and click with the touchpad.
I have mandriva 2010 Spring installed in HP DV6 with Synaptics snPS/2 touchpad. I understand from various forums, that the config for the touchpad is done by editing the /etc/hal/fdi/policy/11-x11-synaptics.fdi.
But there is another .qsynaptic file in the home directory.
# which one is the actual config file ?

Strangely, there is also two config gui tools, one in tools->systemtools->keyboard-and-mouse.
and the other is
tools->systemstools->qsynaptic.

In both the places I have vertical scroll enabled. But when the system boots , the vertical scroll doesnt work.
Strangely,When I just open the qsynaptic gui config editor and then close it, the changes take effect and vertical scroll works.

But the touchpad click never works.

thanks for the help in advance.

open your software manager and search for this xf86-input-synaptics and install it. when you installed you probably did away with none-needed drivers now you need them. then also after installing it use harddrake2 to configure it if you do not know what harddrake 2 is just go to configure your computer program. and select hardware

Thanks for the reply Draceo,
I am unable to find f86-input-synaptics, but I noticed that I have installed X11-driver-input-synaptics. Does it suffice ?
I am using a 64bit OS. and I have also installed QSynaptics.

that is correct please read this from are mandriva forum You will find the driver is working but we need to tell the xorg.conf how to handle the devices driver. anytime you edit the xorg.conf file you need to logout and login so you can restart the xwindows with your new configuration.
you will also find that mandriva 2010.1 has this fixed.

Hi Drakeo,
I added the input driver details, but to no effect. May be they have deprecated the control from the xorg.conf file.
the synclient -m 100 command, also doesnt report any activity when i do button clicks .
Thanks for the help

I read into this seems you may need to upgrade to a newer xorg or distro or revert to the older xorg.
