Toshiba with Intel i3 and ACPI=off

Hey guys,
I installed Crunchbang distro on my Toshiba Satellite L650-14F, and the only reason to recognize multiple cores was to turn ACPI=off on boot.
Guys on the forum tell me I should upgrade to unstable kernel to fix it, so I am wondering, what are the possible consequences? I mean, it works...? Unless it's gonna explode I don't care, cuz the cooler on the processor is working atm.

Cheers!

Turning ACPI of will have many weird side-effect, like CPU frequency scaling not working, power-saving modes not working, ... . This can lead to overheating the system, so it is not at all recommended to run a laptop like that. This is usually not a problem on desktop machines, since the have magnitudes better cooling.
Rather than asking what can go wrong you should open a thread for your real problem, describing exactly what the problem is with which hard- and software and what you have already tried to fix the problem.
