Toshiba Satellite A10-S100 LCD backlight turns off after hibernate.
I have a Toshiba A10-S100 running Ubuntu 6.06 LTS. When I restore from a hibernate (I hibernated when I was logged in) it brings me back to the login screen and the backlight is turns off (it is on up to the point where the login screen appears). I can just barely see the screen enough to log in and perform a full reboot. The backlight came back on, but a second attempt at hibernating produced the same problem. Why won't hibernate take me back to my desktop instead of the login screen, and why does the backlight turn off?

Two ideas...

One. If it stays on, then turns off. Then when it's off, just close the screen again and open it again. That'll make you re-login and it'll go from being off while you wait, to on?

Why not use the echo lcd_out:1 > /proc/acpi/toshiba/video that's been available for toshiba's for ages?
0 is off 1 is on.

Is there a way to have that command execute automatically when the laptop reboots from a hibernate? I can see the screen enough to see that it has gotten to the login screen, but not enough to open a terminal window once I login or execute any commands.

And you tried closing the screen a second time and letting the login screen re-appear?

Otherwise no. Guess it's hard for me to picture not being able to open a run a command even with a blank screen. Have done it all the time when I need to get tv-mode working on my old laptop.
